That says it triggers an access to uninitialized memory.  I'd expect
that to result in a segfault, rather than the symptoms Adam is seeing,
but I'm happy to be wrong about that. :-)

It looks like Adam is using version 1.2.26.  Adam, in addition to
answering Stephen's question, can you confirm that that is the correct
version number?  Thanks!
