Hm, well, the package smoketest is green for both Mule builds.  I
can't find a mismatched parenthesis in char-table.el.  We'll keep
looking, but in the meantime you might try another cvs up && make
clean && make.

You are running a Mule-enabled XEmacs (and using it for the build),
right?  What is your locale (eg, LANG environment variable)?
