The one reported earlier:  e.g., press the compile button, the dialog appears, as the pointer passes over each button the dashed-line appears near the button border but none of the buttons respond to a press.  Press the 'x' and the dialog disappears and nothing happnens.  Press compile again and the make command executes!

When this first happened under 27b nothing would happen.  Then with 28b things worked at first, but now nothing works.  I have fiddled with the window focus preference and the focus_mode in the metacity configuration but I've had no success.

I am a gnome desktop fan but am considering leaving it soon.

None of that has helped me.
