I don't mind taking on such a role if you'd like, but fortunately in this case
you'll be pleased to know that further discussions with the autoconf
developers has revealed a straightforward workaround to the original problem.
With the changes that I'm about to commit we should work fine with autoconf
2.59->2.61 and whatever the next release is.
