Sure, just press M-y.

You can also press RET immediately after entering isearch and you'll
get an editable prompt where normal yanking commands such as C-y work.
That prompt also allows you to access history of previous searches.

I don't think that binding was ever "in".  It seems to be a creative
suggestion of what you might want to put in your `.emacs'.

M-e is a bizarre binding because it's normally bound to
forward-sentence.  I expect motion commands to exit isearch, and
forward-sentence should be no exception.
