No, you're right.  The esh-maint.el file is not the right place to put
it.  Put it in your .xemacs/init.el for now as a workaround.  I've got
to come up with a better solution to this problem.

Maintainers, note that ecb also calls this function.  Time to audit
all the "I don't know about that function" messages from the package
compile?
