[Bug: 21.5-b28] why fold an 80-char line in an 80-col window?

This has always bugged me as well.

I always set
(set-specifier left-margin-width 1)
(set-specifier right-margin-width 1)
in my init file. This isn't enough room to paint a block cursor (which
is 10 pixels wide in my setup.) But the right and left margin widths
could be automatically adjusted depending on the cursor width,leaving
room to paint the block cursor.
How do other editors handle this situation?
