The vice versa part seems odd to me, except for the case where the
XEmacs package contains pieces from multiple upstream releases.  For
example, the XEmacs MH-E update that I'm working on is derived from two
upstream packages: mh-e and mh-e-doc.  Are there other scenarios where
there would be multiple values of AUTHOR_VERSION?

Come to think of it, if there are multiple upstream releases, would it
make more sense to have multiple XEmacs packages that depend on each
other, rather than combining them into a single XEmacs package?

I expect that a lot of people are used to the numbering scheme that I
see with RPMs, i.e., <upstream_vers>-<distro_vers>.  I occasionally
wonder if it would make sense to use that numbering scheme in the
package user interface, and how hard it would be to implement.
