I think, I only want a fast solution.  I have lost track of the packages
I'm allowed to release (see the "spill" Jerry spotted).

I had the impression Vin wanted to release the next stable version some
time ago, so I thought putting in the necessary code into the stable
version is to be favoured.

Vin do you have a timeline?

So, I'm for the third option.
