version control and branches

Hello

So far I have used vc, with a rcs backend.
However it seems to easily possible to have branches of versions of a
file. It seems that rcs has that possibility but I don't see how vc
has that incluced

I mean

Foo-v1-->foo-v1a-->foov1b

|
^
foo-v2

Is there any other interface supporting branches?
Can somebody point me out some documentation as well?
