I don't remember how I did it, maybe I had to stop and cd to the tramp
directory and build tramp there, but I know I eventually got a full
build and was unable to do anything to localize the problem the last
time I tried, on both Mac and Linux.

In any case, Skip's current problem is something entirely different.
