Bad assumption.  As you know by now, there are several core developers
building regularly on FreeBSD, not to mention Darwin which is rather
similar.  It seems most likely that you have an unusual configuration
of FreeBSD.

Please use M-x report-xemacs-bug to report your bugs, as that will
give us a lot of extra information about your environment.  If you
can't do that, at least give us the Installation file generated by
configure in the top directory of the build tree.
