I see your point, of course ... but it wasn't a bad one when it was
made, back when the 68k was a real hot processor and stdint.h was 20
years in the future.

Good!  I'm happy to know it won't change.  You buying storage is much
cheaper for me than fixing my legacy application. <0.5 wink>  The rest
of the XEmacs property/selection code deals with format==32 correctly
(ie, assumes array of longs, properly swabbed).  Knowing Ben, Jamie,
and Martin, that's historical, and no accident.

Agreed, writing longs to network sockets is a much more serious
problem, but you know, that's not an issue with X11.  Seems like a
reasonable compromise to me.
