I believe Volker Zell has built a new version of Cygwin XEmacs that doesn?t
trigger that assertion--at least he mentions doing so in
http://mid.gmane.org/828xm994jl.fsf@vzell-de.de.oracle.com . Try updating
XEmacs using your Cygwin installer.
