Just FYI: I too am running 21.5.27 (on an AMD64 laptop) and it has never
crashed. There are other problems, but no crashes. My most recent
compilation used

        ./configure --with-optimization --with-xft=emacs --with-zlib
        --with-dlmalloc --with-pdump --with-kkcc --with-newgc
        --with-debug --with-error-checking=no --with-assertions
