Comint/shell: what now?

I have arrived at my destination.  It looks like I will be able to spare
a little time for XEmacs work this summer.  Still, what do you want?
Should I press ahead with fixing the comint sync, or would you rather
revert?

I would like to pursue rewriting comint.el to not use
insert-before-markers.  Are there any objections?

We should still fix insert-before-markers, of course.
