I already sent the first reporter a proposed patch to fix this problem,
but haven't had a response yet.  I'm pretty sure it's right, so I'll
just go ahead and commit it.  Send another message to the list if it
does not fix the problem for you.

In the meantime, you can configure --with-sound=noalsa.
